Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, and organ of your body. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and millions of nerves. The skull and your spinal cord protect your brain by the 24 moving bones of the spine. Many everyday activities can cause these spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion. The chiropractic approach to better health is to detect, reduce, and help prevent nervous system dysfunction.

We don’t just have your back….

Chiropractic care is not just for neck and back pain, but also helpful for constant knee, shoulder, and hamstring aches. See below some of the best stretches and exercises you can do at home to help with joint pain.

The hamstring muscle runs from the hip down the back of your thigh to your knee. This exercise is designed to give your back and hip additional flexibility. The hamstring exercise can be done lying or standing.

Lying hamstring stretch:

Lie on your back with knees bent so your feet are flat on the floor. Raise your leg slowly by clasping your hands around the back of the knee to support the lower thigh. Slowly straighten the knee and feel a stretch in the back of your leg. Hold for a count of three and relax.

Sitting hamstring stretch:

Sit on the floor with one leg bent and the other almost straight. Lean forward slowly over the bent leg until you feel a mild stretch under the other thigh.

Shoulder rolls:

Shoulder rolls are also going to increase your flexibility. Roll your shoulders forward, then backward in a circle. Do the exercise for 10-15 seconds to begin. Start with little circles and progress to large circles. This should be done several times during the day to relax your shoulder muscles as well as your neck muscles.

Knee Rolls:

Lie on your back, either on a cushy carpet or an exercise mat. Bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor. Keep your arms at your sides and your eyes on the ceiling. Slowly lower both knees to the right — trying to keep your knees together as you do this — until you feel a gentle stretch in your thighs and lower back. Hold the stretch for 5 seconds, and then slowly lift your knees back to center. Then, lower your knees to the left side, hold, and return to center. Repeat 10 times on each side, with short rests in between.

If pain persists, come in for a joint consult to further diagnose the problem.

Treatment for Disc Bulges/Disc Herniations

Dr. DeLuca is trained in the technique known as Flexion Distraction. It involves the use of traction force to open the involved joint to relieve pressure on the disc and nerve. Our office has specially designed Flexion-Distraction tables, which are used to help alleviate pain associated with herniated and bulging discs.

Pregnancy Care

Many women experience back pain and sciatica during pregnancy due to increased weight, hormonal changes and in the last trimester, baby positioning. Chiropractic care is extremely safe and effective during pregnancy. At DeLuca, we have found that many of our patients who have received chiropractic care during pregnancy have had a much lower incidence of back labor. Our office uses a specially designed pillow for pregnant women, called the “Prego pillow,” which provides maximum comfort during treatment.

Chiropractic For Children

As a child grows and becomes more active he or she experiences bumps, twists, and falls. By the age of 5, children have fallen approximately 3,000 times! Months or years after the initial injury, scoliosis or other spinal curvatures may develop. All children should be examined so future spinal problems can be prevented.

Acupressure

Dr. DeLuca can diagnose and treat sciatica, sinus, and migraine headaches and other conditions through the use of Trigger Point Therapy. These conditions are sometimes caused by trigger points, which are made of fibrous tissue and toxins (waste from muscle). Trigger points are the areas within a muscle, which are tender to the touch when inflamed. Not all doctors of chiropractic are trained in Trigger Point Therapy. Dr. DeLuca has achieved dramatic results using this technique
